Mission
Kupenda for the Children is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt Christian based organization that exists to meet the needs of children with disabilities. Ultimately the goal is that these children will feel that they are loved and accepted.
Why We Exist
In most African countries disabled people are still considered to be “cursed” by God, similar to the view held by people in Jesus’ time as indicated in John 9. Because of this perception some parents may keep their children hidden, abandon them, divorce because they believe their spouse caused the disability or even kill the child at birth. They don’t see that their child can be anything else but a beggar. Therefore, in Kenya only 10% of those with disabilities actually attend school. These special children often do not reach their full potential.
How We Meet Our Mission
Kupenda for the Children meets its mission through one-on-one sponsorship for payment of school fees and formation of child-sponsor relationships, construction of special needs facilities, funding medical intervention, provision of school supplies and medical equipment, creating awareness in the community, strengthening of local churches to better assist special needs children and staffing qualified help for the children in need. Through these kinds of assistance children with disabilities are learning and adapting to society. As this happens, parents and children realize that those with handicaps might be used “so that the work of God might be displayed in his/her life” (John 9:3). Ultimately these children will truly know that they are loved and accepted.
