Kupenda for the children

Trial update and upcoming Kenya trip

The trial still continues in Kenya. They will resume the proceeding on June 11th. Wednesday the trial began with the little girl who was sexually defiled, making her statement. On a positive note she said it was not the two boys in question who hurt her. However, she told a third version of the story (the first being it happened at home, the second being these two boys) which was that she was raped by two unknown boys on her way from home to the market. The lawyer for the boys did not get a chance to cross examine her yet but when he does I am told that clearing the boys is not his only job. He also hopes to get the truth of who really did this to her. I fear that she will end up in the situation again if it truly occurred at a relative’s house.

I’ll be heading to Kenya May 24th-June 4th to help get our first grant-funded student set up to do an 8 week project with Kupenda. I’ll be dealing with several other issues as well but this is the main reason for the timing of the trip. Thanks to my incredibly generous father, my sister, an art therapist, will be accompanying me, which is so great especially considering there is a significant date occurring while I am in Kenya that might be a bit emotional for me. Minna is also so wonderful with the children and has been twice already.
