A Kenyan woman holding a young girl who is missing her left hand.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

~ 2 Corinthians 12:9

It happened just in time for Christmas gifts!  “An Unlikely Gift”, the story of Kupenda for the Children, is now available for purchase on Amazon.com just by clicking hereThe paperback version is just $12.56 and the e book (coming soon) will be available for $5.99.  All royalties go to assist the children with disabilities in Kenya written about in these 162 pages.

In this book “Lauren B. Blair tells the story of Kupenda for the Children, a nonprofit that serves children with disabilities in Kenya who are considered to be cursed by God, frequently being subjected to practices of child elimination and mistreatment. As the story of the founders of this mission and the children it assists unfolds, it becomes evident that not only our gifts and abilities serve us in life, but also our weaknesses and disabilities.”

No photo description available.Lauren Boswell Blair, is an experienced writer who has been to Kenya several times, knows the people of Kupenda personally, raised thousands of dollars for the children there and is the Kupenda board chairperson.  Most importantly, Lauren is a trusted friend who truly loves these children.  She knows what it means to suffer and use her experiences to help others in need.

Reading through the stories Lauren so eloquently captured brings back the emotions and memories of the joys and sorrows of Kupenda’s development as if I was reliving them. It seems like yesterday and yet so long ago at the same time. Our personal trials are shared with you in the hope that you will see how beauty comes from brokenness.  Lauren has highlighted the lives of so many people and stories (each person mentioned could have an entire book written about them) to give a glimpse into God’s work in Kenya for those much of the world has forgotten.  Maybe you’ll see a bit of yourselves in our lives and determine how your brokenness can be used for the healing of others….and subsequently…yourself.

After reading this book Tony Campolo said “From ancient times to the present there are those who have treated children with disabilities as being cursed by God. In this book, Lauren Blair not only challenges such benighted behavior but makes the case as to how such children can be viewed as gifts from God who can bless the rest of us.”

Thank you for being a part of the Kupenda story!

With much love and appreciation,
Cynthia
