A Future Under Construction: Najibu’s Story
Posted on February 2, 2026
When Kupenda supported Najibu to enroll at his local polytechnic school—defying cultural stigma and barriers that often keep young people with disabilities out of school—he didn’t just begin a new academic program; he entered a season of growth, independence, and confidence. Today, he is thriving as a college student, building skills that will shape his future and strengthen his belief in what is possible.
From Challenge to Opportunity
Najibu is currently studying Building Technology at a Kenyan polytechnic school. As he continues in the program, his academic performance continues to improve. He has become more confident in practical lessons, actively asks questions, and consistently participates in group work.
Growing in Confidence and Independence
Joining college marked a significant transition for Najibu. It was his first time living away from home, and he now rents a place near school—an important step toward independence. Being in an inclusive environment with students both with and without disabilities has helped him grow in confidence and self-belief. He stated,
“Joining college has greatly improved my confidence. I’m learning to be independent, and this makes me proud because I can do things on my own. My disability cannot limit me.”
His father has also witnessed this growth. He shared,
“Seeing my child pursue a course that will help him be independent makes me feel proud. There are others without disabilities who have not achieved what my child has.”
Community, Faith, and Friendship
Outside the classroom, Najibu enjoys playing sitting volleyball, watching football, and spending time with friends. Although his new school does not yet offer sitting volleyball, Najibu spoke with the games captain and is working toward introducing the sport on campus.
Najibu is also an active member of the Christian Union (CU) Club, where students gather to pray, worship, and encourage one another. He has built strong friendships at school, and classmates often support him by helping him move between classes and back to his residence.
Supported Every Step of the Way
Najibu receives ongoing support from Kupenda, including school fees, counseling, regular follow-ups, and home visits to monitor his progress. His resilience and focus continue to shape his journey as he works toward his long-term goals. He stated,
“I’m so grateful for the support of counseling, education, and assistive devices that [Kupenda] provides. I am now on the journey of achieving my goals.”
Najibu’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support and inclusive opportunities, young adults with disabilities can thrive—academically, socially, and personally. Thank you for standing with students like Najibu and helping make inclusive education possible!
